Disgusted with himself, the duke decides to leave his palace, and he appoints a deputy, who’s devious and callous. Though Angelo’s a cad, the council thinks he’s right as rain, and Marianne adores him (She’s devoted but insane). Though Claudio and Julia are eager to be wed, the careless words “I love you, Dear” will cost the boy his head. When Isabella tries to save her brother from beheading, the deputy will trade the execution for a wedding.
Of course, the girl is reticent to marry such a jerk. The friar has a plan in mind, but will his scheming work? The friar is the duke; in fact, he never left at all—surprisingly effective when he’s lurking in the hall.
The banquet is where everyone will learn the city’s fate. Can Angelo be stopped, or is this motley crew too late? Appropriate for young and old is this outrageous play. The Bard himself would split his seams, were he around today.
